Description

Camp Description:
This intensive course is designed for teens who are serious about advancing their art skills and building a strong portfolio for AP Art and college applications. Through personalized instruction, critiques, and exploration of advanced techniques, students will develop a cohesive body of work that reflects their personal artistic vision. Participants will focus on refining their technical abilities, conceptual thinking, and presentation skills, all while preparing pieces suitable for their AP Art submission or college portfolio.

Session Structure:

  • Portfolio Planning and Goal Setting: Begin by setting personal goals for the portfolio, discussing the importance of thematic consistency and artistic voice. Students will create an outline of their portfolio and identify the pieces or series they want to focus on.
  • Exploring Mediums and Techniques: Experiment with various mediums—such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media—while learning how to push the boundaries of each to elevate artistic expression.
  • Conceptual Development: Focus on developing a strong conceptual foundation for each piece. Students will work on interpreting themes, ideas, and emotions through their artwork, creating pieces with deeper meaning.
  • Critique and Feedback Sessions: Engage in regular one-on-one and group critiques to receive constructive feedback from instructors and peers. This helps students refine their work, identify strengths, and make improvements.
  • Artistic Voice and Personal Style: Students will be encouraged to explore and develop their unique style, learning how to create a cohesive body of work that reflects their individual artistic journey.
  • AP Art Standards and Portfolio Requirements: Learn the specific requirements for AP Art portfolios, including how to effectively present pieces, document artwork, and write artist statements.
  • Final Portfolio Review: Prepare a final portfolio, complete with a mix of finished works and pieces in progress, ensuring it meets AP standards or college application requirements. Focus on presentation and curation to make the strongest impact.

Educational Objectives:

  • Portfolio Development: Guide students in building a professional-level portfolio with works that demonstrate technical skill, conceptual depth, and personal voice.
  • AP Art Preparation: Provide students with the tools and knowledge to prepare for the AP Art portfolio submission, focusing on the breadth and concentration sections, along with proper documentation and presentation.
  • Artistic Growth and Critique: Help students develop critical thinking and self-assessment skills through regular critiques, allowing for growth and improvement throughout the course.
  • Technical Mastery and Conceptual Thinking: Advance students’ technical abilities across various mediums while fostering their ability to communicate complex ideas through their work.

Materials Provided:
All necessary materials, including sketchbooks, drawing tools, paints, canvases, and mixed media supplies, will be provided. Students are also encouraged to bring their own projects and personal materials for portfolio work.
