Description

Camp Description:
In this hands-on class, young artists will dive into the world of color theory and texture, exploring how different hues and surfaces interact to create vibrant, dynamic art. Through fun experiments and creative projects, students will learn how to mix colors, understand color relationships, and use texture to enhance their artwork. This course is perfect for kids who love to experiment and play with materials while learning the science and art behind color.

Session Structure:

  • Introduction to Color Theory: Learn the basics of the color wheel, primary, secondary, and complementary colors, and how hues interact to create different effects in art.
  • Mixing and Blending Colors: Experiment with color mixing, using paints and pastels to discover how to create new colors and shades. Students will create a color chart that they can refer to in future projects.
  • Exploring Texture: Learn about different textures and how they can change the feel of an artwork. Students will experiment with a variety of materials—like sand, fabric, and different types of paint— to create textured surfaces.
  • Color and Mood: Explore how colors affect emotions and moods. Students will create artwork that uses color combinations to evoke specific feelings and atmospheres.
  • Texture in Art Projects: Apply texture techniques to larger art pieces, using tools like sponges, brushes, and even natural materials to create textured backgrounds and layers.
  • Final Project: Textured Color Painting: For the final project, students will combine what they've learned about color and texture to create a large, vibrant painting that showcases their skills in hue blending and surface design.

Educational Objectives:

  • Understanding of Color Theory: Teach students how to mix and use colors effectively, exploring relationships between hues and how they influence each other in art.
  • Exploration of Texture: Introduce students to a variety of textures and materials, helping them understand how texture can enhance the visual and tactile quality of their artwork.
  • Creative Expression: Encourage students to use color and texture to express emotions, tell stories, or create dynamic compositions.
  • Hands-on Art Experimentation: Provide a fun and engaging environment for young artists to experiment with colors and textures, fostering creativity and curiosity.

Materials Provided:
All necessary materials, including paints, pastels, textured paper, brushes, sponges, and various textural materials, will be provided.
