Description

Camp Description:
In this engaging summer camp, teens will explore the art of visual storytelling by developing their own unique art journals. Through a blend of sketching, painting, and collage techniques, participants will learn how to express their thoughts, ideas, and personal journeys on the pages of their journals. Each session encourages creativity and experimentation with different mediums, resulting in a personalized, one-of-a-kind art journal.

Session Structure:

  • Introduction to Art Journaling: Learn about the concept of art journaling and how it can be a powerful tool for creative self-expression. Students will start by setting up their journals and choosing themes or ideas they want to explore.
  • Sketching Techniques: Begin with basic sketching techniques to outline ideas and create visual elements that can be built upon later with color and texture.
  • Painting and Watercolor Exploration: Use watercolors and acrylic paints to bring sketches to life, focusing on layering, blending, and color mixing to add depth and emotion to each page.
  • Collage and Mixed Media: Experiment with collage by incorporating found objects, patterned paper, magazine cutouts, and other materials to enhance journal pages. Learn how to combine these elements with sketches and paintings for a multi-dimensional look.
  • Personal Themes and Reflections: Encourage students to explore personal themes, from everyday observations to dreams, hopes, or favorite memories. The journal becomes a creative space for self-expression and storytelling.
  • Creative Lettering and Typography: Add hand-drawn lettering and typography to journal pages, learning different styles of creative writing to complement the visual elements.
  • Final Showcase: At the end of the camp, students will have the opportunity to share their art journals with the group, discussing their creative process, themes, and personal inspirations.

Educational Objectives:

  • Skill Development in Mixed Media: Gain proficiency in blending sketching, painting, and collage techniques to create layered and dynamic journal pages.
  • Creative Expression and Personal Reflection: Encourage self-expression and personal reflection through visual art, allowing students to use their journals as a creative outlet.
  • Artistic Confidence: Build confidence in experimenting with different mediums and techniques, helping students discover their unique artistic style.
  • Understanding Composition and Layout: Learn how to effectively arrange visual elements on a page, considering balance, color, and texture for maximum impact.
