Description

Camp Description:
In this imaginative and exciting course, young artists will embark on a creative journey as they design treasure maps and adventure-themed artworks. Inspired by the spirit of exploration and discovery, participants will learn how to create detailed, story-driven maps and illustrations, bringing their own adventure worlds to life. With a focus on storytelling through art, students will use a variety of materials to craft maps, hidden treasures, and scenes from their own imaginative adventures.

Session Structure:

  • Introduction to Map Making: Learn the basics of creating a treasure map, from plotting out a journey to adding landmarks, secret paths, and hidden treasure spots. Explore how maps can tell a story.
  • Treasure Hunt Design: Design your own treasure hunt by creating clues, routes, and illustrations that guide adventurers to the hidden treasure. Incorporate symbols and visual elements that hint at the treasures’ location.
  • Adventure-Themed Artwork: Build upon your map-making skills by creating adventure scenes that include characters, landscapes, and exciting discoveries. Learn how to draw adventurous settings like mountains, caves, forests, and oceans.
  • Aged Maps and Effects: Use techniques like tea-staining, ripping, and folding to make your treasure maps look ancient and weathered, as if they've been discovered after years of being hidden.
  • Final Adventure Project: Each student will create a complete adventure package, including a detailed treasure map and a matching scene or illustration that brings their adventure world to life.

Educational Objectives:

  • Creative Storytelling through Art: Encourage students to develop their storytelling skills through the creation of maps and adventure-themed illustrations.
  • Understanding of Map Design and Symbolism: Teach students the basics of map design, including how to use symbols, landmarks, and paths to guide a viewer through a visual story.
  • Skill Development in Illustration and Design: Improve drawing and design skills as students create detailed maps and scenes, focusing on composition, texture, and layout.
  • Exploration of Artistic Techniques: Introduce students to new techniques such as aging paper and using mixed media to create textured, three-dimensional artworks.

Materials Provided:
All necessary materials, including sketchbooks, colored pencils, markers, paints, and special materials for creating aged maps (tea, sponges, etc.), will be provided.
