Through hands-on exploration, students will learn how abstract art can convey emotion and ideas without the need for traditional representation.
Session Structure:
- Introduction to Abstract Art and Contemporary Artists: Begin with an overview of abstract art, drawing inspiration from artists like Helen Frankenthaler and other influential contemporary figures. Students will learn how these artists used color, movement, and texture to express themselves.
- Working on Canvas: Dive into the process of painting on canvas, focusing on the versatility of acrylic paints and how to manipulate them for different effects.
- Color Exploration: Experiment with color mixing and the use of vibrant palettes, understanding how colors interact and create mood within an abstract composition.
- Form and Composition Techniques: Explore non-traditional compositions, focusing on how to balance form and space in abstract art. Emphasize the freedom of shapes, lines, and textures in creating dynamic and expressive works.
- Acrylic Techniques: Practice a variety of acrylic techniques, including pouring, layering, dry brushing, and blending, to create textured, visually rich canvases inspired by contemporary abstract artists.
- Personal Abstract Masterpiece: Each student will apply the concepts and techniques learned to create their own abstract painting on canvas, reflecting their individual artistic style.
