Description

Urban Sketching: On-the-Spot Drawing is an engaging course aimed at adult learners who wish to explore the dynamic world of urban sketching. This course offers participants the unique opportunity to capture the energy and essence of urban landscapes directly from life. Focusing on techniques for quick sketching, accurate observation, and effective use of color and line, students will learn to document the world around them in their sketchbooks, transforming everyday scenes into compelling artworks.

 

Course Outcomes for Students - 

  • Understand the fundamentals of urban sketching, including its history and the core principles of the urban sketchers community, fostering an appreciation for this form of artistic expression.
  • Develop proficiency in quick sketching techniques that capture the essence and vibrancy of urban scenes, emphasizing accuracy in observation and the ability to document life as it unfolds.
  • Acquire techniques for capturing people and movement, utilizing quick gesture drawing and line work to convey action and animate urban sketches with human figures.
  • Create panoramic views and cityscapes, mastering composition techniques for wide-angle scenes, managing detail in large compositions, and effectively using scale to capture expansive urban environments.
  • Participate in a community of learners, sharing experiences and feedback, to foster a supportive environment for artistic development.

Requirements - A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  

Materials - All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends. We do provide a sketchbook for students, but students are welcome to bring their own if they choose.
