Description:
Portfolio Development and Art Critique is aimed at preparing students for the next steps in their artistic education and careers. This class guides students through the process of creating a compelling art portfolio, crucial for college applications, scholarships, or professional opportunities, while also introducing the fundamentals of art critique.
The curriculum emphasizes selecting and presenting works that reflect the student's unique voice and skill set, covering layout and digital presentation techniques. Students will learn how to critically evaluate their own work and that of their peers, fostering an environment of constructive feedback and personal growth. Key components include understanding the criteria for a standout portfolio, the basics of writing an artist's statement, and strategies for effectively discussing and defending one's work. The class also incorporates practical sessions on receiving and applying feedback to refine and enhance one’s artistic output.
By the end of the course, students will have not only assembled a portfolio that showcases their best work but also gained valuable skills in critique and self-assessment, preparing them for the rigors of higher education in the arts or entry into the professional art world.
Note: While this course id designed for high school juniors and seniors, we encourage any teen who wants to take their art to the next level, and/or prepare for the AP Art classes in future years.
