Description

Idea Lab: Conceptual Play and Practice is an immersive course designed to serve as a laboratory of creativity for adults interested in merging the process of artistic creation with conceptual development. This course is dedicated to fostering a dynamic environment where idea generation and experimental practices take center stage, encouraging participants to explore and push the boundaries of their chosen mediums. Through a series of workshops, collaborative projects, and individual explorations, participants will learn to navigate the space between thought and expression, making this course ideal for anyone looking to refresh their artistic practice with new concepts and techniques.

Course Outcomes for Students -

  • Learn to create concept-driven pieces that transition ideas into art, using everyday objects or actions as starting points, thereby understanding the significance of concept over form.
  • Develop narrative-driven artworks that communicate personal stories or social commentary, mastering techniques for embedding stories and messages within art to engage and connect with audiences.
  • Formulate a plan for future art projects or series that build on the concepts developed during the course, ensuring a continued integration of conceptual play and practice into their ongoing art practice.
  • Experiment with unconventional materials and methods, discovering how different mediums can alter or enhance the communication of an idea, thus broadening their creative toolbox.
  • Participate in a community of learners, sharing experiences and feedback, to foster a supportive environment for artistic development.

Requirements - A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.

Materials - All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends. We do provide a sketchbook for students, but students are welcome to bring their own if they choose.
