Course Description:
This course offers an immersive introduction to the foundational aspects of drawing. Tailored for adult learners of all experience levels, it emphasizes mastering the core techniques required to create expressive and accurate drawings. Students will work with a variety of materials, focusing on both representational and abstract forms. Each class includes demonstrations, individual practice, and constructive critiques to deepen understanding and skill development. By the end of the course, students will have a strong portfolio of work showcasing their progress and a deeper understanding of drawing as a practice.
Art Skills Covered:
Developing line quality: exploring fine, bold, and varied strokes to convey form and movement
Contour and gesture drawing for capturing dynamic figures and objects
Building three-dimensional form through value, shading, and light manipulation
Mastering one-point and two-point perspective to create depth and space
Exploring the use of charcoal, graphite, and ink for different effects
Techniques for balanced composition, including focal points, symmetry, and visual flow
Introduction to figure drawing and still life, including proportion and anatomical basics
Experimentation with abstract representation and non-traditional mark-making

This course is a prerequisite for advanced drawing courses
