In this six-week course, students will delve into the world of portrait drawing, exploring techniques to capture likeness, emotion, and the nuances of the human face. With a focus on different styles and mediums, the course will provide a comprehensive understanding of drawing portraits. Students will engage in two major projects, each spanning two weeks, providing them ample time to refine their skills.
Course Outcomes for Elementary Students -
Accurately capture facial proportions in their drawings.
Apply shading and tonal values effectively for realistic results.
Demonstrate competency in using at least two different media for portrait drawing.
Employ life-drawing techniques for enhanced realism and depth.
Articulate and apply constructive criticism during peer reviews.
Complete many techniques and practices, and also two comprehensive projects, one focusing on technical skills and the other on artistic expression.
Requirements -
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.
Materials -
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
Parent/Guardian Note -
For this class, we will study a live model for two weeks. This person is a trained model, who will sit for observational drawing practice, and will be clothed.
