Description

This six-week course aims to introduce teenagers to the rich and varied world of comics and graphic novels. Focusing on both artistic and narrative techniques, students will learn how to create their own comics from start to finish. They will experiment with drawing styles, panel layouts, storytelling, and character development, culminating in a final project where they will produce a short comic or a chapter of a graphic novel.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

Artistic Proficiency: Students will master the basic skills required to create comics, including drawing, layout, and text incorporation.
Narrative Competence: Students will understand how to structure a compelling narrative within the comic or graphic novel format.
Critical Analysis Skills: Students will be able to critique and analyze both their own work and existing works in the genre.
Completion of Original Work: Each student will complete a short comic or a chapter of a graphic novel as their final project.
Peer Interaction and Review: Students will engage in constructive peer reviews, learning to both give and receive feedback.
Appreciation of the Medium: Students will gain a deepened appreciation for comics and graphic novels as a form of artistic and narrative expression.
 

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  

Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
