Discover the art of character design in the compelling world of comics and graphic novels. Over six immersive weeks, students will delve into designing characters from scratch, understanding anatomy, mastering expressions, and developing backstories. This course will equip students with the skills to create their own dynamic comic characters, ready for any narrative they want to explore.
Course Outcomes for Elementary Students -
Proficiency in Anatomy: Students will have a good grasp of anatomy as it applies to character design.
Expression Mastery: Students will be adept at using facial expressions to convey character emotions and traits.
Integrated Design Skills: Students will know how to weave narrative elements into their character designs.
Consistency: Students will be able to maintain visual consistency for a character across multiple drawings or panels.
Portfolio Addition: Students will leave the course with a finalized character design sheet suitable for portfolio inclusion.
Collaborative Skills: Students will have experienced peer review and possibly collaboration, mimicking industry conditions.

A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.
Materials -
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
