In this class, we invite children ages 6-9 to make a diorama from start to finish! Each week will work through elements of set design and creation, as students make fantastical tiny worlds using a variety of boxes and paper sculpture tools.
A diorama is a small world in a small object. (It can be a shoebox, altoid tin, book with the inside pages cut out, or other material!) Seeking inspiration from set design and diorama artists, we will use set design and sculpture techniques to explore and make all kinds of dioramas!
Kids can make any type of diorama that they dream of - maybe a design inspired by a movie, a fairy house, or a jungle? Teachers help the students make the work from the student's ideas and imagination. We will also gain inspiration from artists around the country who have made different environments and spaces to life!
Students will be utilizing a lot of imagination, creativity, and skill as they glue, cut, draw, and fold paper to make it pop in the space, paint, and collage.
