Description

This eight-week course is designed for adults seeking to explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting. Whether you are a beginner or someone looking to refine your skills, this class offers a comprehensive introduction to the materials, techniques, and concepts essential to mastering watercolor. Participants will learn about various brushes, papers, and paint qualities, and will practice techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, gradients, and more. Each session combines demonstrations with hands-on practice, encouraging experimentation and personal expression. By the end of the course, students will have developed a deeper understanding of watercolor painting and the confidence to create their own artistic works.

Course Outcomes for Students -

  • Understanding of Materials: Students will gain knowledge of different types of watercolor paints, brushes, and papers. They will learn how to select and utilize these materials based on their individual properties to achieve desired artistic effects.
  • Mastery of Techniques: Participants will learn core watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, glazing, and lifting. They will practice these methods to control the medium and enhance their fluency in expressing different textures and finishes.
  • Color Theory Application: Students will explore the fundamentals of color theory within the context of watercolor painting. This includes mixing colors, understanding color relationships, and effectively using color to convey mood and atmosphere in their work.
  • Development of Artistic Style: Through guided exercises and independent projects, students will begin to develop their own artistic style. They will be encouraged to experiment with different approaches and integrate personal interests and inspirations into their artwork.
  • Critique and Feedback: Students will learn to give and receive constructive criticism. Regular critique sessions will help them refine their technique and approach, and foster a supportive community environment where peer feedback is a tool for growth.
  • Completion of a Final Project: By the end of the course, students will complete a final project that showcases their mastery of the medium. This project will be an opportunity for students to integrate all the skills and techniques learned throughout the course into a cohesive piece that reflects their unique artistic voice.
