Description

This eight-week course invites adult students to explore the vibrant world of landscape painting across multiple mediums such as acrylics, oils, and watercolors. Geared towards both beginners and intermediate artists, this class focuses on capturing the essence of natural and urban landscapes through expressive techniques. Participants will learn to interpret and express landscapes in an artistic manner, focusing on composition, color, and mood. Demonstrations in each medium will provide students with the technical skills necessary to manipulate different paints and tools, while individual projects will encourage the development of a personal style. By the end of the course, students will be able to create compelling landscape paintings that resonate with emotional depth and personal expression.

Course Outcomes for Students -

  • Proficiency in Multiple Mediums: Students will gain practical skills in using acrylics, oils, and watercolors for landscape painting. They will understand the unique properties and techniques associated with each medium, including mixing, layering, and texturing.
  • Composition and Perspective: Participants will learn key principles of composition and perspective to create dynamic and engaging landscape paintings. This includes understanding foreground, middle ground, and background, as well as how to effectively use leading lines and focal points.
  • Enhanced Color Knowledge: Students will explore advanced color theory in the context of landscape painting. They will experiment with color schemes and learn how to use color to evoke mood and atmospheric effects in their landscapes.
  • Expressive Techniques: The course will encourage students to develop expressive painting techniques that go beyond traditional landscape painting. This includes experimenting with abstraction, impressionistic touches, and bold use of color and brushwork to convey emotions and atmosphere.
  • Critical Analysis and Artistic Feedback: Through peer reviews and critique sessions, students will develop their ability to analyze landscape paintings critically. They will learn how to constructively critique their own work and that of others to improve their artistic vision and execution.
  • Creation of a Personal Portfolio: By the end of the course, each student will have created a portfolio of landscape paintings in various mediums. This portfolio will reflect their technical skills, understanding of expressive landscape painting, and personal artistic style.
