Description

This course is designed for young artists who want to explore the versatile world of acrylic painting, with a specific focus on texture creation. Over the span of four weeks, students will learn how to manipulate acrylic paints to produce a variety of textures that can add depth and interest to their artworks. The class will cover techniques such as sgraffito, impasto, and glazing, as well as how to use additives like sand or gels to create unique surface effects. Each session will introduce new methods and materials, providing students with the opportunity to experiment with different techniques and discover how these can be used to enhance their artistic expressions.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

  • Understanding of Acrylic Techniques: Students will learn specific acrylic painting techniques such as sgraffito, impasto, and glazing, understanding how each method can be used to achieve different textural effects.
  • Use of Textural Additives: Participants will explore the use of additives like sand and gels to modify the texture of acrylic paints, gaining hands-on experience in enhancing the tactile qualities of their paintings.
  • Creativity in Application: The course will encourage students to think creatively about texture and to experiment with combining different techniques and materials in their artworks.
  • Development of Artistic Skills: Students will develop their overall painting skills, improving their brushwork, color mixing, and compositional layouts.
  • Appreciation of Visual Aesthetics: Participants will gain a deeper appreciation for how textures can influence the visual and emotional impact of art, learning to use texture to add depth and interest to their paintings.a
  • Completion of Art Projects: Each student will complete several textured art projects, culminating in a final piece that demonstrates their mastery of textural techniques and their ability to integrate these into expressive artworks.

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  


Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
