Description

Nature Drawing Explorations is a course designed for young students to discover the beauty and diversity of the natural world through drawing. Over four weeks, participants will learn to observe and depict various elements of nature, including plants, animals, and landscapes. The class will cover fundamental drawing techniques such as sketching, shading, and texturing, tailored to help students capture the intricate details of natural subjects. Each session will focus on a different aspect of nature, providing students with the opportunity to explore outdoor settings or work from natural objects brought into the classroom. This course encourages a deep appreciation for the environment while enhancing students’ drawing skills and their ability to see and represent the world around them in art.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

  • Enhanced Observational Skills: Students will develop their ability to observe details in nature, learning to notice and capture the shapes, textures, and colors of various natural elements.
  • Drawing Technique Proficiency: Participants will gain proficiency in fundamental drawing techniques such as sketching, shading, and texturing, enabling them to realistically depict natural subjects.
  • Understanding of Natural Forms: The course will help students understand the forms and structures of different natural objects, from the anatomy of animals to the diverse shapes of leaves and flowers.
  • Creativity in Artistic Expression: Students will be encouraged to express their personal artistic style within the context of nature drawing, exploring creative interpretations and compositions.
  • Appreciation for the Environment: Participants will develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world, fostering a sense of environmental awareness and stewardship through artistic engagement.
  • Completion of Diverse Art Projects: Each student will complete a series of nature-based drawing projects, culminating in a final piece that showcases their growth and learning in depicting the natural world.

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  


Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
