Introduction to Painting with Acrylics

This course is designed for young students eager to explore the vibrant and versatile world of acrylic painting. Over the span of four weeks, participants will be introduced to the fundamental techniques of painting with acrylics, including color mixing, brush handling, and the application of various painting methods. The class will focus on helping students understand the properties of acrylic paints, such as their quick-drying nature and how they can be used both thinly like watercolors or thickly like oils. Each session will guide students through the creation of different projects, ranging from simple landscapes and portraits to more abstract compositions. This class aims to foster a creative atmosphere where students can experiment with colors and techniques, ultimately gaining the confidence and skills to express themselves artistically through acrylic painting.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

• Understanding of Acrylic Paint Properties: Students will learn about the unique properties of acrylic paints, including how they dry quickly and can be used in various consistencies from thin to thick layers.
• Color Mixing and Application Techniques: Participants will master basic color theory and the practical skills of mixing colors, as well as applying paint to create different textures and visual effects.
• Brush Handling Skills: The course will develop students' proficiency in using different types of brushes and brush strokes to achieve desired artistic outcomes.
• Creation of Complete Paintings: Students will complete several paintings, each focusing on different subjects such as landscapes, portraits, and abstract designs, which will help them understand composition and thematic expression.
• Artistic Confidence and Creativity: Participants will be encouraged to explore and express their personal artistic style, fostering creativity and confidence in their painting abilities.
• Preparation for Advanced Techniques: By the end of the course, students will be prepared to explore more advanced painting techniques and mediums, building on the foundational skills learned in this class.

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  

Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
