Description

This course is designed to introduce young students to the essential skills and techniques of drawing. Over the course of four weeks, participants will explore basic concepts such as line, shape, form, and composition. The class will provide a strong foundation in drawing from observation, encouraging students to engage with a variety of subjects including objects, landscapes, and figures. Instruction will focus on developing hand-eye coordination, understanding perspective, and mastering shading techniques to bring depth and realism to their artwork. Each session will include practical exercises and projects that reinforce these concepts, providing a supportive environment where students can discover their artistic potential and gain confidence in their drawing abilities. 

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

  • Mastery of Basic Drawing Elements: Students will learn and apply the fundamental elements of drawing, including line, shape, form, and composition. This includes understanding how these elements work together to create complete images.
  • Observational Drawing Skills: Participants will enhance their ability to draw from observation, accurately capturing the world around them. This skill is essential for realistic rendering of objects, landscapes, and figures.
  • Understanding of Perspective and Proportion: The course will introduce students to the concepts of perspective and proportion, helping them understand how to depict three-dimensional spaces and objects on a two-dimensional surface effectively.
  • Techniques in Shading and Texture: Students will develop their shading skills to add depth, volume, and texture to their drawings, making their artwork more lifelike and expressive.
  • Development of Artistic Confidence: As they learn and practice new skills, students will gain confidence in their drawing abilities, encouraging ongoing artistic exploration and expression.
  • Completion of Diverse Art Projects: Each student will complete a series of art projects throughout the course that showcase their understanding of drawing fundamentals, culminating in a final project that demonstrates their growth and learning in the class.

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  


Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
