Description

Introduction to Acrylic Painting is a comprehensive course designed for teens who want to explore the versatile medium of acrylic paint. Over six weeks, students will learn the fundamental techniques of acrylic painting, including color mixing, brushwork, layering, and blending. The course will cover essential concepts such as composition, perspective, and the use of light and shadow to create depth and realism. Each session will include demonstrations, hands-on practice, and personalized feedback to help students develop their skills and confidence in using acrylics. This class is perfect for young artists looking to build a solid foundation in acrylic painting and express their creativity through vibrant and dynamic artworks.

Course Outcomes for Teen Students -

  • Mastery of Acrylic Techniques: Students will learn fundamental acrylic painting techniques, including color mixing, brushwork, layering, and blending, to create a variety of effects.
  • Understanding Composition and Perspective: Participants will develop a strong grasp of composition and perspective, learning how to arrange elements within their paintings to create balanced and visually appealing artworks.
  • Use of Light and Shadow: The course will teach students how to use light and shadow to add depth and realism to their paintings, enhancing their ability to create three-dimensional effects on a two-dimensional surface.
  • Color Theory and Application: Students will gain a thorough understanding of color theory and how to apply it in their paintings to achieve harmony, contrast, and mood.
  • Creative Expression: The course will encourage students to experiment with different styles and subjects, allowing them to express their unique artistic vision through acrylic painting.
  • Completed Portfolio Pieces: Each student will complete several finished paintings, building a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills and growth in acrylic painting.

Requirements -
We strongly recommend that teens have some drawing experience for success in this course.

Materials -
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.

Note -

This course is slightly higher cost than our usual teen courses as several sessions feature a live model for observational drawing.  These models will be clothed, for all's knowledge and reference.  If you have any questions about this work and practice, please email us.

You may see on the website that we do offer a life drawing session at Cultivate on Tuesday nights - while these are excellent practice, it is almost always a fully nude model and therefore is only open to adults 18+. Students may join when they are of age per our policy.
