Description

Fundamental Figure Drawing is a course designed for teens eager to develop their skills in drawing the human figure. Over six weeks, students will explore the foundational techniques of figure drawing, focusing on anatomy, proportion, gesture, and form. The course includes sessions with live models, providing students with valuable experience in capturing the dynamics and nuances of the human body. Each class will feature demonstrations, hands-on practice, and personalized feedback to help students refine their technique and improve their observational skills. This course is ideal for young artists looking to enhance their understanding of figure drawing and develop a strong portfolio piece.

Course Outcomes for Teen Students -

  • Mastery of Proportions and Anatomy: Students will learn to accurately depict human proportions and anatomy, understanding the structure and movement of the human body.
  • Gesture Drawing Skills: Participants will develop their ability to quickly capture the essence and movement of the human figure through gesture drawing exercises.
  • Experience with Live Models: Students will gain valuable experience drawing from live models, learning to observe and render the subtleties of the human form in real-time.
  • Improved Shading and Rendering Techniques: The course will teach students how to use shading and rendering techniques to add depth and dimension to their figure drawings.
  • Composition and Form: Participants will learn how to create balanced and dynamic compositions, effectively arranging the figure within the drawing space.
  • Enhanced Observational Skills: Through regular practice and feedback, students will significantly improve their observational skills, allowing them to create more realistic and expressive figure drawings.

Requirements -
We strongly recommend that teens have some drawing experience for success in this course.

Materials -
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.

Note -

This course is slightly higher cost than our usual teen courses as several sessions feature a live model for observational drawing.  These models will be clothed, for all's knowledge and reference.  If you have any questions about this work and practice, please email us.

You may see on the website that we do offer a life drawing session at Cultivate on Tuesday nights - while these are excellent practice, it is almost always a fully nude model and therefore is only open to adults 18+. Students may join when they are of age per our policy.
