Description

In this course, young artists will discover the joy and creative potential of expressive brushwork and mark-making. Over four weeks, students will explore a range of brush techniques and tools to produce dynamic and expressive artworks. The curriculum focuses on how different brushes, strokes, and other mark-making tools like sponges, sticks, and fingers can be used to convey emotions and atmospheres in painting. Each session will introduce new methods for applying paint, encouraging students to experiment with spontaneity and control. It's an excellent opportunity for budding artists to explore the expressive capabilities of paint and other mediums, unlocking new ways to communicate through art.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

  • Technique Proficiency: Students will learn a variety of brushwork techniques and mark-making methods using different tools such as brushes, sponges, and even unconventional items like sticks and fingers.
  • Expression Through Medium: Participants will develop the ability to use brushwork and mark-making as forms of personal expression, learning how different strokes and textures can convey various emotions and atmospheres.
  • Material Exploration: Students will experiment with various materials and mediums to understand how each can impact the visual outcome of their artworks.
  • Creative Confidence: The course will foster a sense of confidence in students' artistic choices, encouraging them to experiment and take creative risks in their work.
  • Artistic Vocabulary Expansion: Participants will expand their artistic vocabulary, gaining an understanding of artistic terms related to brushwork and mark-making, which will help them discuss and critique art more effectively.
  • Completion of Art Projects: Each student will complete several projects that showcase their ability to apply expressive techniques, culminating in a final piece that demonstrates their overall learning and development in expressive brushwork and mark-making.

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  


Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
