Description

Drawing: Portraiture and Expression is an in-depth course designed for teens who are passionate about capturing the human face and its myriad expressions. Over six weeks, students will explore advanced techniques in portrait drawing, focusing on anatomy, proportion, and the subtle nuances that convey emotion. The course will cover a variety of media, including pencil, charcoal, and pastels, allowing students to experiment and find their preferred style. Each session will include detailed demonstrations, guided practice, and personalized feedback to help students develop their skills and create compelling, expressive portraits. This class is perfect for young artists looking to deepen their understanding of portraiture and enhance their ability to convey emotion through art.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

  • Mastery of Facial Anatomy: Students will gain a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, learning to accurately depict features and proportions in their portraits.
  • Techniques for Capturing Expression: Participants will learn techniques for capturing a wide range of expressions, understanding how to convey emotion through subtle changes in facial features.
  • Proficiency in Various Media: The course will introduce students to different media, such as pencil, charcoal, and pastels, teaching them how to use each medium effectively in portraiture.
  • Enhanced Observational Skills: Students will develop keen observational skills, learning to notice and replicate the fine details that make each face unique.
  • Creative Experimentation: The course will encourage students to experiment with different styles and approaches, helping them to find their unique voice in portrait drawing.

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  


Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
