Description

This course invites young artists to explore the vibrant world of textures and collage. Throughout the four-week session, students will experiment with a variety of materials, including paper, fabric, and recycled objects, to create rich, layered artworks. The focus will be on understanding the properties of different materials and how they can be assembled to form artistic compositions that are both visually appealing and full of imagination. This hands-on class is perfect for encouraging artistic expression and developing a deeper appreciation for mixed media art.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students - 

  • Understanding of Materials: Students will learn about various types of materials used in collage making, including their textures, flexibility, and how they can be manipulated.
  • Technique Development: Participants will master basic collage techniques such as cutting, layering, and adhesive methods, enabling them to construct durable and aesthetically pleasing artworks.
  • Artistic Expression: The course will encourage students to express their individual ideas and emotions through the medium of collage, helping them develop a personal style.
  • Creativity and Problem Solving: Students will be challenged to think creatively about how to represent concepts or narratives visually, using the materials at hand.
  • Appreciation for Mixed Media Art: By interacting with various mediums, students will gain an appreciation for mixed media art and understand how combining different elements can lead to new forms of artistic expression.
  • Project Completion: Students will complete several small projects and one final larger project that integrates the skills and concepts learned throughout the course. This will provide a sense of accomplishment and a tangible demonstration of their new skills!

Requirements - 
A curious and interested mind, no experience is necessary for this course.  


Materials - 
All regular course materials are included, though students may receive lists of supplies if they would like to practice at home after the course ends.
