Description

Character Design for Comics is a dynamic course designed for young students who are passionate about comics and want to create their own characters. Over four weeks, participants will delve into the creative process of character development, learning how to design unique and memorable characters that can star in their own comic stories. The course covers essential aspects of character design, including anatomy, expression, costume, and backstory. Students will explore how different traits and features can define a character's personality and role within a story. Each session will involve practical drawing exercises and brainstorming sessions, helping students to think critically about what makes a character stand out. This class is ideal for budding artists and storytellers eager to bring their imaginative ideas to life through the art of comic book creation.

Course Outcomes for Elementary Students -

  • Understanding Character Anatomy: Students will learn basic anatomy appropriate for character design, enabling them to create believable and proportionally accurate figures.

  • Innovative Costume and Accessory Design: Students will gain skills in designing costumes and accessories that reflect their character’s role, personality, and the story’s setting, contributing to the overall authenticity and appeal of the character.
  • Crafting Backstories: The course will teach students how to develop rich backstories for their characters, providing depth and motivation that enrich the narrative of their comics.
